Hi Everyone!!!
Welcome back to Surreal Serene, & this blogpost is truly a special post for me to write & also to Vlog about, and this post you guys is all about the Aaliyah for MAC Collection that has just been released!!!…. AND IM SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THIS COLLECTION, AS IM A SUPER DAY 1 FAN OF AALIYAH! In the 90s I fell in love with her music, she is an icon in her own right, and her music, style, & overall amazingness inspired me growing up as a kid in the 90s! <3 She inspired me to be a strong woman, and reminded me to never accept bullshit, be a Queen & always move forward!!! I learnt all her music as a kid growing up in the 90s and learnt all her dance moves, she truly was & still is an inspiration me growing up into my adulthood!!!
I was obviously one of the many many thousands that voted for this collection to be created by MAC, late last year, and it’s long overdue, but I’m glad that the collection has finally been released! As it’s a part of her legacy as she passed away ๐ but will never be forgotten and it’s a great reminder for everyone & for those that didn’t have the pleasure of listening to her music… this will spread her music to many many more people… and it’s so great that she now has a makeup collection named after her <3
First of all, I bought 2 of the products from the collection, which were the Aaliyah for MAC – Bronzing powderย inย Baby Girl & the Aaliyah for MAC – Lipglass in At your best you are…!!! & I absolutely love the packaging for the collection, the gorgeous aubergine deep shiny purple packaging is everything, and I love that her signature is all over the packaging, it’s such a pretty touch!!!

Baby girl was the name Aaliyah was commonly associated by, and the name of this bronzer is actually giving me all the feels <3
The bronzer is a stunning item in itself, I mean the packaging alone, it has Aaliyah’s signature imprinted within the powder, and I think that is just a beautiful touch, and I really love the bronzing powder. It’s such a special item…. but I was concerned about the colour pay off, as when I swatched the colour on my hand, barely anything came off, and it looked even too sheer for my skin, and believe me I thought the colour pay off was not good enough for at least a MAC COLLECTION, BUT FIRST AND FOREMOST AN AALIYAH FOR MAC COLLECTION!!!!
But besides this, when I physically used my Spectrum A05 Contour brush, and dipped it inside the Baby girl Bronzing Powder, I found the shade to be highly pigmented and looked so beautiful on my cheeks, and temples (so although it didn’t swatch well on my hand) it really did a great job on my cheeks, and the powder has gold highlighter within it as well, which creates a little sparkle with the bronzing!!!

The song behind this Lipglass name is everything, and one of my favourite songs by Aaliyah (go have a listen to it) ๐ <3
But moving onto the lipglass, now if you know me well, you’ll know I’m really into matte lipsticks but I wanted to take a chance, and try a gorgeous lipgloss, and so I chose this gorgeous burgundy / purple-y gloss from the Aaliyah for Mac collection.
I really do love the Lipglass, I mean it smells so sugary but I have faced a bit of difficulties with the actual formula, I mean it’s really sticky, and when you put your lips together it’s really sticky, and when it’s windy your hair just flies into the lipgloss and it’s a messy situation (but I guess thats a known thing with any lipgloss) hahaha… so it’s not a deal breaker … but the other little thing that bothered me about this lipglass was the fact that as it’s a pigmented / tinted lipgloss and it’s a dark shade, the colour runs in different areas on your lips and creates a two tonal kinda shade, so I don’t think it can be worn alone… but that being said I paired it with my MAC – Viva Glam III lipstick underneath (which has a similar dark burgundy / purple tone) & dabbed on the At your best you are lipglass in the middle sections of my lips, and it looks incredible …. true Aaliyah style!!!

All in all, if you’re a true Aaliyah fan, then I definitely recommend you check out the collection by MAC Cosmetics, as if anything I’ll be keeping my products as a memory of this incredible, legendary and amazing music icon, may God rest her soul & may she rest in peace, baby girl <3

Loved your video so much girl!! I’ll be honest and say I never really listened too much on Aaliyah’s music but I did like some songs and I thought she was such a strong and gorgeous woman to adore on many levels so when she tragically passed away I was mourning too. She was and still is an icon so when I heard MAC was coming out with this collection I was stoked! I still haven’t been able to pick anything up from this collection and I might not since so many things are selling out, but that bronzing powder looks gorgous!

I’ve been wondering about this collection for a while. I’m a huge Aaliyah fan and love both her music and style. The lip gloss colour really suits you. I get what you mean about the formula being sticky. I guess the easy answer is to have your hair up. Love the review! ๐ x

beautiful lipglass, this shade looks great on you. It’s amazing that MAC did an Aaliyah inspired line. I loved her growing up too, she is such a nineties icon. Such a talented singer and danger she was…it’s a shame we lost her so young.
